主要從事作物遺傳育種和生物技術的教學和科研工作,在家蠶和玉米新品種選育、數量性狀遺傳、分子遺傳和轉基因研究等方面成績突出。

主要貢獻
學術研究
先後主持國家自然科學基金、亞洲玉米生物技術網、Rockefeller基金和省部級課題,參加國家科技攻關項目、國家“863”項目和國家“948”項目。
育成玉米新品種“川單18”、“川單20”、“川單21”、“川單22”、“川單23”、“川單24”、“川單25”、“川單26”、“川單27”和“川單29”,通過四川省和國家品種審定。參加完成“玉米新型雄性不育材料的創製、研究與套用”和“四川地方種質和美國玉米種質三高自交系21-ES及18-599、156研究選育”兩個課題,分別達國內領先和國際先進水平。
2002年遴選為四川省學術和技術帶頭人。主編或參編專著3部、教材1部,在國內外發表論文100多篇。
目前,在作物遺傳育種、生物化學與分子生物學專業招收碩士、博士研究生。在讀博士研究生6人,國際留學生2人,已畢業博士研究生10人;在讀碩士研究生11人;已畢業碩士研究生37人。

獲獎記錄
育成春用多絲量家蠶品種“陝蠶三號”、“陝蠶四號”和家蠶高繭層率基礎品種,1995和1998年兩次獲得陝西省科技進步一等獎,1998年獲國家技術發明四等獎。
2001年,獲四川省科技進步一等獎,2002年獲四川省科技進步二等獎。1999年獲國務院特殊津貼。
