本書屬於跨學科研究:1)以文學語篇的交流性特徵為出發點,以文體學、語用學和語篇分析相結合的基礎上提出了語用文體學的分析模式;2)以文學批評和文體學研究涉及得最少的文學體裁——戲劇——為研究對象,深入探討了戲劇語言的特徵和戲劇文本的多重屬性,把長期以來被傳統的文學批評、戲劇批評和文學文體學研究所忽視的戲劇語言——舞台指令——納入語用文體學研究的範圍;3)通過對西方荒誕劇代表作家厄內斯庫的三部劇本進行巨觀和微觀分析,指出了作者在同一文本中對待不同功能性讀者的不同修辭手法以及戲劇語篇中複雜的作者讀者關係。本研究拓寬了語用學和文體學的研究範圍和層面,同時也對西方戲劇批評和文學研究有一定項獻。
