保羅·西蒙Paul Frederic Simon，1941年10月13日出生於美國新澤西州紐華克市，他首次與其夥伴Art Garfunkel以一種二人組合“Tom And Jerry”的形式進入音樂界。
1957年，他們以一首頗有影響力的搖滾樂《Hey,Schoolgirl》衝擊了美國金曲排行榜。在出過一部專輯後，他們分開了，主要是為了能返回學校學習。儘管後來，Simon主要還是為CaroleKing唱片公司工作，他還是沒能再出唱片，直到60年代初。Simon曾使用更種不同的化名在1962至1963年期間出過一些在美國來說的二流歌曲，比如說以Tico And The Triumphs名義出的《Motorcycle》和以Jerry Landis名義出的《The LoneTeen-Ranger》。
