When I read the sentence----“weasel word”, it really bewildered me. Because weasel is a kind of wild animal covers with a terrible smell. But accord with its egg-eating habits, writer make a metaphor. Eat the inside but leave a complete out shell. That is the explanation--- modifier---said by writer. And he employs a vivid word “suck”. Although I cannot find a way to use a phrase as suck out when I look up the one in dictionary, still I try to restructure like that: the weasel will suck the yolk out. So for my part, out is an additional word to show the method, besides, I learned a real fix usage from the dictionary----“be sucked into something”, that means trapped in a problem and cannot get rid of it. According to the standard of the weasel claim, I would like to show one car add claim I learn from a book, “the relentless pursuit of perfection”. So how can the admen proof the car is real perfect or not? Or which part of the car is perfect? That is a smoke ball in order to bewilder the awareness of consumer.
Then I met the “water is wet” claim, in the other words, that means a superfluous statement claim.
Like this one----“the taste is great”! So will we have a nausea after we drunk it??
Then met the “so what” claim as well. Manufacturers always use a equivocal way to survive the produce between the doubt from consumer and the competition from the whole market.
And the scientific or statistical claim is the most hateful claim, AdMan adopts a scientific knowledge and a experiments to show how wonderful their produce is, but as the fact, their scientific product does not have any characters to surpass the same one produce by others in the market. Frankly speaking, I think this kind of add claim seems so popular in our machine advertisement. As I know, it is not allow to advertise a machine add in TV on abroad. But it happens like a commonplace in our country, I am not sure the behavior is good for consumer or not. Moreover, the add never explain the component, but use a set of proper noun that most of consumer do not remember it or hear about it before.
Then I find a word, easy-off, I guess the product may be a type of cleaner which sanitize things clearly.
Then the last-two-kind of claim exists all channel, we experienced it yet. The word---“flatter” watch my attraction, it leads to recall slang from the USA, that is, brown nose. Let me explain by myself, it means somebody fawn just like kiss someone` s ass, and the logical result is the one` s nose may wet with shit. And I learn a new word from the last paragraph----commercial, that means a type of add only broadcast in TV.
Although we touch add every moment and everywhere, usually we believe we can neglect it if we change anther channel, if we forget we had received lots of handbill, if we close our eyes and persuade yourself you had seem nothing, that is unfortunately, most of us still recite some classical add claim fluently. What a pity! Accept our fate, please.
