The sixth unit says advertisement; this also has the certain relations with my major. In title “claims” means word. When I finished the reading of 1-8 paragraphs, I found that easy at the beginning and difficult afterwards.

First, let me explain several words’ meaning. “Immunity” means “when you are immune, especially to disease or from legal action”, here means “not easily believes the persuasive advertisement”. The word “consumerland” is an amusing term used to describe the consumer society. “Dumb” equals “foolish”. “Sophisticated” means “having a good understanding of the way people behave and/or a good knowledge of culture and fashion”. “Belittled” means “to make an action or a person seem unimportant”. “Persuasive” means “to make someone do or believe something by giving them a good reason to do it or by talking to them and making them believe it”. “Since” equals “now that”. “Devote to” means “to give all of something, especially your time, effort or love, or yourself, to something you believe in or to a person”. “Resort to” means “to do something that you do not want to do because you cannot find any other way of achieving something”. “Delight in” means “get pleasure from”.

In the article some sentences I radically unable to understand its meaning, even if already sought help from the reference book. The last sentence of paragraph 2 is a difficult sentence. The phrase “all but” means “all except”. The first sentence of paragraph 3, the word “attack” here means “a vigorous attempt to persuade consumers to buy their products”. The expression “the competition” in the 7th paragraph is used to refer to the goods that a rival company is selling.

Regarding the person that author mentions in the paragraph 1, I think I am also such person. I also consider the advertisements are senseless and not real, but indeed I will buy the product which on some televisions frequently appears, but regarding that has not seen or listened, I will say, is it good? Is it trustworthy? Just like in the article said, a person unaware of advertising’s influence on him is precisely the one most vulnerable to the adman’s attack. Now, on the television have various advertisements, they are irregular. The good advertisement may achieve advertisement itself the goal, promotes people's expense desire. The advertisements which bad to the top also can let people remember it, but, the people remember are only its product ranges, but regarding its content will not inquire about.
