Time After Time1983年春，辛迪在錄製專輯<She's So Unusual>時，已經錄好了"Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "She Bop"與"All Through the Night"。但是專輯製作人Rick Chertoff建議辛迪再多錄一首"單曲"。後來，辛迪與Rob Hyman在鋼琴旁共同寫下了這首歌。
"Time After Time"是公司原定的第一首主打單曲，但是辛迪認為大眾往往會因為歌手的第一首單曲而給他們貼上標籤，辛迪不想讓大眾認為她是一個民謠歌手，很有可能會毀了她的事業。後來，她的經紀人David Wolf提議"Girls Just Want to Have Fun"作為首單。因此，"Time After Time"成為專輯的第二首發行單曲。
