1979年，世界上第一塊模擬電子管音箱過載失真的效果器誕生了，它就是OD808。從此808和4558（它所使用的晶片），成為了效果器歷史字典中最閃耀的兩個名詞從S R V到SCOTT HENDERSON，無數偉大的吉他手都用它在創造著音樂的奇蹟！

後來所有的過載效果器幾乎無不是OD808的子孫，甚至是傳奇的ibz TS808，其實也是它的子孫（TS808是IBZ公司後來委託Maxon生產，其實就是OD808，只是換了一個名字而已）。它在效果器領域的地位，就相當與Marshall在音箱領域的地位、Fender、Gibson在電吉他領域的地位那樣。
