創作背景
爵士與王妃1997年8月31日，黛安娜·弗蘭西斯·斯賓塞王妃在法國巴黎因車禍而去世。這個訊息震驚了艾爾頓·約翰，設計師範思哲也同樣死於事故，同一年失去兩位摯友，這讓他一度抑鬱，最終艾爾頓·約翰決定用歌聲紀念，於是創作了這首歌。1997年9月，該首歌的錄製在倫敦西部的Townhouse錄音室完成 。
《Candle in the Wind 1997》是艾爾頓·約翰對《Candle in the Wind》重新填詞後的作品。《Candle in the Wind》是艾爾頓·約翰和貝爾尼·陶賓在1973年為紀念美國影星瑪麗蓮·夢露創作的一首歌曲，瑪麗蓮·夢露去世去這首歌創作的11年前。1997年，艾爾頓·約翰在黛安娜王妃的葬禮上表演了重新填詞的版本 。
