Investment in China
An unprecedented consumer economic revolution is underway in China, with more than 250 million citizens expected to move online—and 600 million going wireless—over the next five years. The transformation is taking place at break-neck speed, and new businesses are being created everyday to capitalize on these new market opportunities.
This accelerated pace has much to do with China's robust entrepreneurial culture and openness to capitalist ideals. It's also fueled by the country's strong intellectual and technology talent pool. For these reasons, China today makes for the perfect environment in which to build industry-leading and market innovative companies.
At Redpoint, our interest in China began through our extensive experience with consumer Internet, wireless and semiconductor components companies. Today, we are leveraging our knowledge and experience in the US to assist local Chinese entrepreneurs as they navigate similar market opportunities and challenges. At the same time, Redpoint is applying on-the-ground market expertise and relationships to this effort, so we can effectively translate that knowledge to local cultural and market dynamics.
Redpoint Entrepreneur-In-Residence Program
Redpoint has a successful history of partnering with outstanding entrepreneurs through its Entrepreneur-in-Residence program. By teaming up early on, we accelerate the time it takes to identify a large market opportunity and create a great company to go after it.
EIRs tap Redpoint’s domain knowledge and network as well as our deal flow and deep understanding of early-stage dynamics. In turn, Redpoint benefits from their hands-on experience taking companies from concept to reality, building world-class management teams and executing flawlessly.
Case in point. Satish Dharmaraj—one of the original Java architects at Sun Microsystems—joined as an EIR in 2003. Satish worked with us to incubate an enterprise messaging concept. The company became ZIMBRA, an open source messaging and collaboration leader, which Redpoint funded. Today, Zimbra has become one of the most exciting open source companies with a world-class management team and a growing list of customers.
Redpoint is always looking for the right individuals to partner with in this way. Interested? Drop one of us a line.
