《文獻閱讀與翻譯》是教育部“高等教育面向21世紀教學內容和課程體系改革計畫”的研究成果，是面向21世紀課程教材和教育部“九五”規劃教材。《文獻閱讀與翻譯》是《研究生英語系列教程》提高階段的重要組成部分，通過不同專業文獻和翻譯技能兩條主線，平行鋪開，旨在幫助學習者了解和掌握專業文獻的基本內容、語言特點以及全方位的信息檢索，培養並提高他們閱讀和翻譯各種專業文獻資料的能力。
《文獻閱讀與翻譯》可作為高等學校非英語專業碩士生、博士生使用的教材，還可供具有相當於或接近於本科英語6級水平的英語自學者使用。
