林南先生是在國際學術界享有盛名的社會學家,是美國杜克大學社會學系教授、美國社會學會前副會長、(台灣)中央研究院院士,他在20世紀80年代初為中國社會學的重建工作做出過重要貢獻。主要研究領域為社會資本、社會關係與社會結構等領域和不同地區社會結構的比較研究。
