? 80年代初的南加州，還在學校念書的 Bryan Holland 和 Greg Kriesel 經常去 Orange 郡的環球俱樂部觀看搖滾表演，終於有一天他們決定成立一支名為 Manic Subsidal 的樂隊，當時樂隊另外兩名成員是主音吉它手 Doug Thompson 和鼓手 Jalme Lilja 。十分滑稽的是，樂隊成立之初，樂隊成員居然對演奏一竅不通。於是，樂隊的早期活動自然就是成員們無休止的練習和排練。不得不承認，他們的進步神速，1984年起他們就是南加州朋克音樂一支不可忽視的力量。1985年，在改名為 The Offspring 後，他們發表了首支單曲“I''ll be waiting”。
在經過成員幾經更換之後，學校的門衛 Kevin Wasserman
以吉它手的身份加入。而年僅16歲的 Ron Welty 終於有機會成為樂隊的鼓手。
至此，The Offsping 的陣容才算基本確定：主唱兼節奏吉它手 Bryan Holland 、貝司手 Greg Kriesel 、主音吉它手 Kevin Wasserman 和鼓手 Ron Welty 。
1989年，他們開始著手準備首張大碟《The Offspring》的製作。Bryan Holland 終於圓了自己長久以來的一個夢。並請來樂隊成員最喜愛的 TSOL 樂隊的製作人 Thom Wilson 來為樂隊製作專輯。經過一番精心準備，同名專輯《The Offspring》在 Nemesis 唱片公司旗下推出，使世人第一次領略到樂隊交相輝映的吉它演奏和 Bryan Holland 硬朗狂放的演唱。

1992年，在轉投 epitaph 公司之後，The Offsping 發表了第二張專輯《Ignition》。這一次，樂隊更加宏大的氣勢和 Bryan Holland 細緻入微的歌詞更加引起了歌迷的注意。但在商業上，他們和其他朋克樂隊一樣，始終處在當時最走紅的 Green Day 的陰影下。1994年他們請回了 Thom Wilson 製作專輯《Smash》，力爭更大的突破，他們大膽地將朋克與重搖滾相融合，使音樂更加根源化。《Smash》取得了巨大的成功，1995年在美國就已經有了4白金的銷量，單曲“Smash It Up”被收入電影《蝙蝠俠》的原聲專輯，這為他們在樂壇贏得了進一步的聲望。當然，這一年也有令樂隊頗為煩心的事，他們與 Epitaph 公司的官司打的不可開交。
1997年，The Offspring 再次改換門庭，與哥倫比亞唱片公司簽約，並於2月發行了他們的第四張專輯《Ixnay On The Hombre》，唱片很快就達到了白金銷量。緊接著，The Offspring 在1998年10月推出了單曲“Pretty Fly”為新專輯製造生勢，並立即成為各大電台的熱門曲目。11月17日，樂迷期待已久的專輯《Americana》終於面市並風靡全球，它總算為自90年代以來一直低迷的朋克音樂帶來了令人鼓舞的成績。毫無疑問，The Offspring 正用他們的成績告訴人們：只要我們在，朋克就不會死。
