在布蘭妮的首張專輯錄製之前，布蘭妮對專輯的最初構想為雪瑞兒·可洛音樂風格，但是要更加年輕更加成人風。然而，布蘭妮同意了唱片公司製作人的觀點即公共的青少年風格。她飛到了斯德哥爾摩的Cheiron Studios錄製了這首歌曲，這裡也是布蘭妮和製作人：Max Martin,Denniz Pop和Rami Yacoub在1998年3月到4月期間完成專輯大半曲目的錄製地。"Sometimes"由Jörgen Elofsson進行詞曲創作並由Per Magnusson和David Kreuger進行製作。1998年3月，布蘭妮錄製了這首歌曲。最終由Martin進行合成。這首歌曲的有聲吉他是由EsbjörnÖhrwall演奏的，而低音吉他是由托馬斯·林德伯格完成。鍵盤和編程是由Kreuger完成，額外的鍵盤音由Magnusson提供。背景聲由Anders von Hoffsten提供。

著作權爭議
歌曲在詞曲創作著作權尋在爭議。一名叫史蒂夫·華萊士的印地安那詞曲創作者，聲稱他於1990年創作了《sometimes》，但直到布蘭妮註冊歌曲著作權4年後的2003年仍未註冊著作權。華萊士還稱布蘭妮已經承認他是詞曲的創作者，並出示了一份聲稱傳送自布蘭妮的電子郵件，郵件上聲稱"I now know for a fact that you wrote ['Sometimes']. But there's nothing I can do about it. That's all I can say about it." 而後來，這封電子郵件被指作假，華萊士的訴訟也於2005年10月31日被駁回。
MV
SometimesMV片段1999年2月，布蘭妮開始為"Sometimes"的MV進行排練，然而在排練期間，布蘭妮的膝蓋受傷了因而被迫進 行物理治療流程。一個月後，布蘭妮發表了一份聲明：“我想感謝我很棒很棒的冬粉以及所有在這期間關愛和支持我的人們”，同時也表露了在1999年4月之前她無法進行MV拍攝。
最終，MV的導演是之前合作拍攝過"...Baby One More Time"的Nigel Dick。 地點是加利福尼亞州馬里布的天堂灣。
