儒勒·凡爾納(1828-1905)生於法國的南特。他還在巴黎求學時就開始給劇院編劇了。他的第一部小說是《氣球上的五星期》(1862)，此後他又陸續創作了60多部科幻小說和冒險故事，成為當時最著名的作家之一。
